Thanks for this post, I've just finished reading the article and found it extremely interesting, not to mention promising! As a dance teacher who is hoping to work in secondary education, it was so inspiring and motivating to know that these guidelines had been read by the government and I agreed so strongly with the entire proposition.
I was slightly disappointed that the publication and response from the government was 3 years old, as I would have liked to have seen more of a change within secondary schools by this point, but it's good to know that the ideas are in place. In particular the suggestion that there should be at least one specialist dance teacher in every school was one I wholeheartedly agree with and hope to benefit from in my future career!
I feel there is definite potential for this article to be used as a tool in an interview situation, helping to validate my potential role within a school.
Thank you for posting this- I have blogged about dance teaching and training. It saddens me that schools do not have appropriate facilities to teach dance- why should sprung floors not be compulsory? Surly a sprung floor is in line with a paintbrush or a chair.
